Most all of us have carpet in our homes that we love and enjoy walking on everyday. Carpet comes in all different colors, shapes, and textures. Carpet is great to have in the home, but as we all know we have to work to keep it clean. Carpets that aren\'t clean regularly can cause health problems, especially if you have allergys. Carpet can trap dirt, dust, odors, moisture, and sometime even mold spores. Here are some great ways to prevent getting dirt and spills on your carpet. First of all, you should always try to take off your shoes when you walk on your carpet. Shoes can track in a lot of dirt as well as mud, rocks, oil, and many other unwanted substances. Also having pets can make your carpet age much faster. Pets can also track in dirt, mud, leaves, and many other things as well. A good idea might be to try and keep your pets in a room that doesn\'t have carpet. Another way to prevent carpet spills is to try and not eat or drink in any room that has carpet in it. Most carpet spills in the home are made because of someone accidently knocking over a cup full of some kind of liquid that can stain the carpet.
To have clean carpet, not only do you have to keep the dirt and spills off, you need to vacuum the carpet when it is dirty as well. For carpet that is walked on everyday, a lot of people think that it should be vacuumed every day. When vacuuming a good idea is to vacuum the floor in several directions to allow the vacuum to pick up all the debris it can. If you are looking at buying new vacuum try to good a very good quality vacuum cleaner. Always make sure to keep the bags or containers empty and filters are cleaned regularly. Steam cleaning your carpet is also a good idea to help keep your carpet clean. Steam cleaning the main rooms in your home about once a month should keep your carpet clean and long lasting. You can buy and steam cleaner and do it yourself or hire a good company to come and clean your carpets for you. You can also contact your carpet manufacturer (if known) to see what they recommend on how often to steam clean.

A lot of people use rugs in their homes to protect their carpet from normal wear from shoes and other things can can bring in dirt. When choosing a rug, try and find the right size rug that will cover the area that is most heavily used in the home. You can also find rugs for your hallway so you can protect the quality and life span of your carpet. Using welcome mats at each doorway is a also a good idea to keep from tracking in dirt and other debris that can damage your carpet. Another way of using rugs to protect your carpet is by putting a rug under heavy furniture to protect your carpet from permanent indentions that the heavy furniture and leave behind.
Other ways to clean carpet.
If you have a spill on your carpet, you should try and get the spill up as fast as possible. The faster you get the spill up, the less likely chance of having a stain. When you have a stain, never use an iron or a hair dryer to dry a carpet stain, doing this will only seal the stain permanently on your rug. If you notice a spill or make one, quickly grab a super absorbent cloth such as a chamois, shammy, or towel. When you are trying to absorb the spill don\'t press very hard the first time because you might press the spill further down into the pad. Lightly lay the super absorbent cloth on the spill and let it soak up what it can the first time. The second time you come back to the spill, try and use a cleaning agent along with the super absorbent chamois or cloth. If you need to use a cleaning agent or liquid, make sure to read the label and follow the directions. If the spill is not completely up after the second time, use a steam cleaner on it.
No matter how careful you are, chances are that you will have a spill one day on your carpet. When this happens, don\'t panic. Just follow the above steps to help you get the spill up before it leaves a stain.
