A Tutorial On Makeup Cleaning

Removing Cosmetics from your Carpet

A great majority of women use beauty products, and it\'s no wonder that the makeup and beauty market is a $29 billion industry. Today, our world is gaining more technological advancements in the makeup industry, and ingredients in cosmetics are constantly evolving. It\'s very common when women are getting ready and putting on their makeup, some loose powder might accidentally spill on the carpet, or someone knocks over an open nail polish bottle. Some of these products may seem impossible to remove from your carpet, but most have solutions one can simply accomplish with a little bit of research and application. When determining how to eliminate carpet cosmetic stains, you initially need to determine the ingredients of the type of makeup.

Nail Polish

It\'s important to quickly clean up nail polish before it dries onto your carpet, it will make removing an easier process. To keep the carpeted area moist, generously blot the area with water. Now, moisten a white cloth with a non-acetone nail polish remover, and first test an area to ensure that the carpet color isn\'t stripped by the nail polish remover. If the test spot works, continue to blot up the nail polish residue with the cloth. It\'s also wise to keep alternating a cloth moistened with water to prohibit the nail polish from drying.  Hairspray is also an effective remover since it contains alcohol. Follow the same general steps when treating the stain. After you\'ve lifted the nail polish completely out, clean the spot with a mild dishwashing soap and water to eliminate any of the remaining cleaning agents. Take a dry white cloth and press out as much excess water as you possibly can, finally allow your carpet to dry.

Lipstick is one of the hardest stains to get out of carpet since most lipsticks are marketed as long lasting and smudge proof. Vaseline has proven to work efficiently since most lipsticks contain petroleum. Depending on how much lipstick is on the carpet, take an equal amount of petroleum and simply rub it into the carpet. You may have to repeat this process several times. When the stain is out, take some mild dishwashing soap and wash the treated area with warm water. Goo Gone is another great product for removing lipstick from the carpet. Take an old white cloth and squirt an ample amount of Goo Gone, next delicately rub the stained area. Continue to gently rub the carpet fibers and keep turning the cloth over so a clean side is rubbing the area. Once the lipstick is removed from the carpet, wash the treated area with dishwashing soap and warm water. Blot out any excess water and allow the carpet to dry.

Powder Cosmetics (Eye shadow, face powder, blush, glitter, etc.)

This group of cosmetics is one of the easiest to clean up. The dry particle ingredients make cleaning up this spill a breeze. First, begin by vacuuming up as much of the spill as you possibly can. Afterwards, you will simply want to wash the remaining makeup out with warm water and dishwashing soap. Take a clean white cloth and dip it into the soap solution and gently blot at the stained area. It\'s beneficial to repeat this process in order to fully remove the cosmetic. The makeup will lift out of the carpet fibers onto the damp cloth. Keep using a clean piece of cloth when blotting out the stain. If a stubborn smudge still remains, you can apply rubbing alcohol or hairspray with the exact same blotting technique. Once, your carpet is fresh from stains, follow up by washing the hairspray or rubbing alcohol out with warm water and dishwashing soap. Lastly, blot up excess water with a clean cloth.

Liquid Makeup (Concealer, Foundation, Mascara, Liquid Eyeliner, etc.)

For getting out black mascara or liquid eyeliner stains, all you need to use is a soapy dishwashing detergent solution with warm water. With a clean white cloth softly blot the cosmetic stain up; continue this method and the stain will be flushed out of the carpet fibers.

There are a variety of products you can use to treat liquid concealer and foundation stains. Actual makeup remover, Resolve, vinegar, and hydrogen peroxide are effective stain removers.  When using hydrogen peroxide, pour a few drops of 3hydrogen peroxide directly onto the makeup stain. Depending on the longevity of the stain, it may be beneficial to allow the hydrogen peroxide to sit and work for a few minutes. Taking a clean white cloth, consistently blot up the remaining hydrogen peroxide. You can apply the other cleaning solutions in the same fashion, and use the exact blotting method. Once you\'re finished treating the stain, flush you\'re carpet with the dishwashing liquid and warm water mixture. You\'re carpets will be looking fabulous in no time!
