Years ago, you built or renovated your home and at the time you went out and invested in the best thick, tight pile carpet you could find and expected it to last for decades. Well decades have passed and the carpet has withstood the test. The pile is still thick and upright where you can get you fingers deep down into it. But, unfortunately, the carpet has developed some character over the years, like all of us, which is not that attractive. The sun through the large picture window has faded a section. When having a carpet dyed be aware that, in most cases, the carpet can only be dyed a deeper version of the same color. The reason being that it is impossible to tell what the results will be by laying one color on top of another. For example if you had a light blue carpet and it was dyed with deeper blue the result would be blue. If it was dyed with burgundy the result may be burgundy or purple or even deep mauve or brown. You would be stuck with whatever the result.
Before dyeing, the carpet is first deep vacuumed to remove any foreign matter from deep in the pile. It is then cleaned thoroughly and allowed to dry completely. The baseboards and any other areas near the carpet are covered to protect them.

There are two different methods used to dye carpeting both involve using a special professional grade carpet dye. The first is spraying the dye on with a power sprayer much like spray painting and the second is applying with a machine with rotary brushes that massage the dye deep into the fiber. The carpet then needs to dry a second time.

After the carpet is dyed and dried the results should be an even tone of color and areas of staining that could not be removed should blend in or at least be less visible. Sometimes the original color still shows through and a second treatment is required.
