How Often Should You Have Your Carpet Cleaned?

When you carpet your home you are making a serious investment, usually in the thousands of dollars, so it makes sense to take the best care of it so that it lasts as long as possible giving you the best return on your investment. Regular carpet cleaning is going to be required.

If you buy the best quality carpet you can afford and you have it laid on the best quality cushioned underlay, you are likely to have the carpet for 10 years or more if you look after it properly.

Looking after it probably means embarking on a regular cleaning schedule where you vacuum the carpet at least once a week. There will be areas of the house that have more traffic than others especially around doorways and other entry points, and for these areas you will need to vacuum more regularly perhaps even daily if required.

Regular vacuuming ensures that any soil or dust particles will remain near the surface of the pile and will be easier to remove. Once soil and dust has been allowed to settle into a carpet fibre it can become impacted and very difficult to remove.

This will affect the overall look and feel of the carpet as well and after time you may notice the carpet feeling quite stiff and the colour will certainly appear quite different to when it was new.

If you have pets or small children who regularly play on the carpet area you will only have to vacuum more regularly but you should also look at using some quality carpet cleaning products, or else look at using carpet cleaning professionals to do the job for you.

• Vacuum your carpet at least once a week or more often in heavy usage areas or where children or pets have been playing.
• Use a professional carpet cleaning service at least every 12 months to keep your carpet pristine. Of course, if you have areas of carpet that are prone to heavy traffic you may want to do this more often.
• If you can\'t afford to employ a professional carpet cleaning service, there are plenty of cleaning products on the market that you can use regularly, at least every three months, which will keep your carpet in good condition.
• Cleanup accidental spills and accidents as soon as possible after they occur. Make sure you read plenty of tips about how to remove particular stains from carpets, for example red wine, so that you do not permanently set a stain.

There is nothing better than keeping your carpet soft underfoot and in showroom condition. It not only ensures that you get the best life from your carpet but you also protect your investment as well. The money you spend in floor cleaning products will be more than returned through the extra life you gain for your carpet so really, it is a simple matter of commonsense
