Ten Tips for Tough Stains

You sometimes find a stain which is very tough to remove.  Well here are ten tips to help you remove those tough stains.

1. Crayon Marks on walls.  For this problem, use a citrus based cleaner.  A good one to try is Goo Gone.  Apply the product with a soft cloth and once the marks disappear, wash the area with soap and water.  Finally let it air dry.
2. Scuffs and scrapes are best removed with a product called Mr Clean magic eraser.  Use wet the pad and only press as hard as necessary.  Don\'t push too much or you\'ll risk damaging the paint.
3. For nail polish on upholstery, try a small amount of nail polish remover.  Don\'t use a product with other additives because they can stain the upholstery.
4. Mud on carpet.  The first thing to do is to let the mud dry completely.  Then use a good vacuum cleaner to get it all up.  It is much easier to remove a dry mud stain than a wet one.
5. If you spill red wine on carpet, simply apply table salt over the stain and let it sit overnight.  Then vacuum and wash away the remainder in the morning.
6. For any stain which you remove from carpeting, it\'s important to apply paper towels to the area you treated and then weigh it down with some books, etc.  Let it sit overnight.  In the morning you\'ll find that any excess stain or moisture has been absorbed by the paper towels
7. To remove catsup from carpeting, first use a wet sponge on the area.  Then mix one tablespoon of liquid dishwashing detergent with two cups of warm water.  Use a clean white cloth to sponge the stain with the detergent solution.  The blot the stain until the liquid is absorbed.  Repeat these last two steps until the stain is gone.
8. To remove grease from upholstery, first scrape off the excess grease.  Then sprinkle baking soda, cornstarch, or another similar absorbent on the stain.  Let this stand for 5 minutes and then vacuum.Use a clean white cloth and sponge the stain with a dry cleaning solvent.  Blot the stain until the area is clean.  Repeat these steps as necessary.
9. To clean lipstick off clothing, first scrape off any excess.  Then pretreat the garment with a prewash stain remover.  Wash the garment as usual.  If the stain remains, repeat with the prewash treatment and wash again.
10. To remove wax from clothing, do the following.  If the wax is soft, then freeze it with an ice cube to harden it.  Once done, you can scrape off the excess wax.  Then sponge the area with a dry cleaning solvent.  Take a couple of paper towels and wrap the stain.  Press a warm iron over it to melt the remaining wax and transfer it to the paper towels.

Replace with fresh paper towels and repeat until the job is complete.  Then treat the stained area with a prewash solution and wash as usual.  This should get the wax completely out of the fabric.
